thetwilightzone mattreevesfacetsr1 News : Matt Reeves Lands The Twilight Zone Directing Job with Warner Bros

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. Deadline (and Variety) reports that Warner Bros has chosen Matt Reeves, director of genre faves Cloverfield and Let Me In, to take on their new Twilight Zone movie. The news is brief, only confirming that Reeves is their choice and “negotiations will get underway early next week.” Weteased a few weeks ago that WB was considering a few very high profile directors, like Nolan, Cuarón or Michael Bay, but it looks like Reeves got the job in the end. Awesome! I think Matt Reeves really is the perfect choice for this.

Out of most of the directors they were reportedly looking at, Reeves is ideal and, come on, we all knewNolan was a pipe dream anyway. And I think this is the best way to follow-up his fantastic sci-fi career already, as I know he’ll do wonders with this and deliver a kick ass, eerie, awesome Twilight Zone movie. Deadline reminds us that while the 1983 Twilight Zone movie was an anthology film with various directors (like Spielberg, Landis, Dante), this new Twilight Zone is simply a “big science fiction action movie with a single freestanding story that is linked to the original series mainly in that it shares that familiarly eerie feel.” Sounds a bit vague, but interesting nonetheless. The reports say the screenplay is by newcomer Jason Rothenberg, but Rand Ravich has also been attached as a writer, so I’m not sure which update it is.

Warner Bros’ new Twilight Zone is being produced by Leonardo DiCaprio through his Appian Way company along with Jennifer Davisson Killoran and Michael Ireland. The project is just being developed now, and Reeves has numerous other projects he’s involved with, like The Passage and This Dark Endeavor, not mention The Invisible Woman. Deadline says that the hope is to sign on Reeves quickly, work further on the screenplay, and “get the picture into production by next summer“, then maybe in theaters by 2013. I hope it all goes through, I’d really love to see Reeves make this movie as soon as possible.

marvelAvengers IronManflynewtsr1 News : Feige Says Iron Man 3 Leads the Next Round of Sequels to Avengers 2

If it hasn’t been obvious already, starting with Iron Man 2, the latest round of Marvel Studios movies have mostly been setups designed to lead us into The Avengers, which is finally arriving in theaters next May. While we just saw the first official trailer last week, Marvel made a stop at the New York Comic-Con this past weekend, and studio head Kevin Feige spoke about a few details regarding the future of the Marvel franchises. Bleeding Cool was the first to mention them, quoting that Feige saidIron Man 3 would be the first film “in the second phase of the Avengers initiative.” Other sequels would follow from there.

THR also posted on the event, with a quote of their own. Feige “told fans that Marvel is currently already working on Iron Man 3, which is in pre-production and which he said ‘will be the first of what we sort of refer to as phase two of this… saga that will culminate, God willing, in Avengers 2.” Right, so it sounds like that means Iron Man 3Captain America 2Thor 2, maybe something else in there (Ant-ManDr. StrangeWar Machine?), and then we’ll get to The Avengers 2 - and this is all way down the line. IM3 is scheduled for May 2013, Thor 2 for November 2013, and Cap 2 doesn’t even have a date but is likely 2014. So don’t expect to see Avengers 2 until at least 2014 – and that’s even if the first one does well next summer.

That said, it’s always exciting to hear them speak about the future setup of movies we’ll see. One of the Q&A questions asked about the tradition of teasing the next movie at the end of their current movie. “It’s a nice tradition, and I like traditions, so I think we’ll keep that up,” Feige responded. Bleeding Cool took that as Feige confirming that “there’s going to be a little teaser scene tucked away at the end, after the credits.” I hope so – I love seeing those! But will the end of Avengers have a teaser for Iron Man 3then? Feige did also confirm that Shane Black is directing the third movie, as we know they’re already hard at work with RDJ.

If you want to read more on the footage/coverage from NYCC, head to THR, Bleeding Cool or The Playlist. I’m very excited to see The Avengers next summer and I’m just hoping that Joss Whedon has done a great job and made an awesome movie that lives up to the hype, at least that’s what I’m expecting. In terms of a few other Marvel franchises, Feige did apparently say that a Guardians of the Galaxy movie is in the works, but it will be standalone and probably won’t tie into this Avengers series. Glad to see some updates from NYCC, and it sounds like the footage was awesome. We’ll keep you updated on Avengers and beyond.
